Terms of Use
Last updated October 9, 2026
These terms cover your use of the Knit & Crochet: Purl app for iPhone and iPad ("Purl", "the app") and Purl Premium. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
The app is licensed to you through the App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where these terms say something more specific, these terms apply.
Your account
You need an account to use Purl, which you create by signing in with Apple, Google, or an email code. You're responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your sign-in method secure. You can delete your account at any time in Tools → Settings → Account.
Your content
Your projects, patterns, photos, notes, and stash belong to you. You give us permission to store, copy, and display your content only as needed to run the app for you, for example to back it up and sync it across your devices. We don't claim ownership of your content, and we don't share it publicly unless you choose to, such as by sharing a project recap.
Only import patterns and other files you have the right to use. Pattern designers own the copyright in their patterns. Purl is a personal tool for keeping patterns you own or that are freely available; please don't use it to copy or share patterns in ways their designers don't allow.
Community content
In Tools → Settings → Help → Feature Requests you can post ideas, vote, and comment. Posts and comments are public to other app users (shown anonymously), and you're responsible for what you post.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Don't post harassment, hate, sexual content, spam, anyone else's personal information, or anything illegal. We may remove content and suspend or terminate access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Anyone can report a post or comment, or hide a person's posts, from inside the app. We review reports within 24 hours.
Purl Premium
Purl is free to use with limits on how many patterns, yarns, and needles, hooks, and supplies you can save. Purl Premium removes those limits and is offered as an auto-renewing subscription, billed yearly or monthly.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- New subscribers may get a free trial. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you're charged.
- Your subscription renews automatically at the same price and period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
- If Premium ends, nothing you've saved is deleted. You just can't add more than the free limits allow.
Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country. We may change prices in the future; Apple will let you know before a change affects your subscription.
Third-party services and content
The Discover tab shows patterns from Ravelry and links to other pattern websites, such as Etsy. Purl isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them. Their content and any purchases you make on their sites are covered by their own terms, and we aren't responsible for them.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- Break the law or infringe anyone's rights, including copyright, while using the app
- Try to access other people's accounts or data, or interfere with how the service works
- Reverse engineer the app or our servers, except where the law allows it
- Use automated tools to scrape, overload, or abuse the service
We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Changes to the app
We're always working on Purl, so features may change, and we may add or remove them over time. We recommend exporting your data now and then (Tools → Settings → Your Data) so you always have your own copy.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep your counts and data safe, but the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't guarantee that the app will always be available, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Purl in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Ending these terms
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if we stop offering the app. The sections on your content, disclaimers, and limitation of liability continue to apply after that.
Changes to these terms
If we update these terms, we'll change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Contact us
The quickest way to reach us is from inside the app: open Tools → Settings → Help → Contact Support.
